    This is the class that ‘puts it all together’’. Join Katie and Tami, Physical Therapists from Healthy Aging Physical Therapy, for an all-levels class that combines PWR! Moves with strength, balance and mobility for a well-rounded 45 minutes of exercise designed to improve your posture, your power and your confidence. We’ll take balance to the next level, adding quick stepping drills to help you move fast when you need to, but stay on your feet like you want to. Recommended equipment for this class includes 2 small to medium weights (or soup cans or water bottles) and a chair.

    Workout differently by combining voice, movement, and cognition in a fun, immersive, dual-task Parkinson’s exercise experience, co-led by physical therapist Josefa Domingos and speech language pathologist John Dean of Dual Task for Parkinson’s.com. This program is an excellent way to strengthen your cognitive abilities alongside big movements and cardio while reinforcing using a loud voice. The program warms up slowly with everyday physical challenges alongside a cognitive attentional twist and continues to progress throughout the session until you are challenging yourself out of your comfort zone with each new activity. Although no equipment is necessary for today’s class, please keep a bottle of water nearby. You may also wish to consider keeping a chair within reach in case you wish to do any of the activities in the seated position. Enjoy the session!

    Fitness Fridays: PWR! Moves (Parkinson's Wellness Recovery Moves)

    PWR! Moves (Parkinson's Wellness Recovery Moves) is a Parkinson's-specific training program to maintain or restore skills that deteriorate and interfere with everyday movements. PWR!Moves are performed with large, whole body movements, maximum effort, and intentional action in multiple postures (floor, all 4's, sitting, and standing). These Parkinson's exercise classes specifically target "4" skills shown by research to target mobility in people with PD (muscle strength for upright posture, weight shifting, spine flexibility, and transitional movements). As a restult, persons with PD gain body awareness and maintain functional movements.

    This video from Clare McLean of Rogue PT is great for people who seated exercises are best for, or for people who work and sit a lot, to get some ideas of how they can move and stretch and stay mobile while at work!

    Although these exercises are in sitting and are quite safe, feel free to modify as needed for safety and comfort.

    Equipment needed:

    -Sturdy Chair without arms if possible

    -Hand Towel

    -Small (1-3 lbs) hand weights if you have them, or something around the house like cans of food/water bottles, etc!

    -Water to drink! Stay hydrated!
