Strong Bones, Strong Life

Mondays and Thursdays 9-10AM

Offered Virtually via Zoom

Are you living a Strong Bones, Strong Life yet?

With bone density peaking at 35 years old, we all experience progressive bone loss at a rate of about 1%, per year, as we age. With 43% of adults over the age of 65 either living with Osteopenia or Osteoporosis, about a third of these individuals will experience an Osteoporotic fracture in their lifetimes. However, this progressive weakening of bone can be either accelerated, or decelerated, through our lifestyle choices, by how we eat and by how we choose to move and exercise.

This 8-Week Exercise & Education Series, taught by Physical Therapist and Board-Certified Geriatric Clinical Specialist, Katie Wadland of Healthy Aging Physical Therapy, provides an Evidenced-Based, Fitness-Forward approach to Osteoporosis Prevention and Management. Classes will involve aerobic exercise, functional strength training, balance and flexibility and will incorporate ground-level exercise, so being able to safely get on and off the ground independently is a must.

Typical Class Experience

Warm Up: 10 Minutes of Aerobic Exercise + Mobility Work

Strengthening and Postural Stability: 20-30 Minutes of Targeted Functional Strength Training designed to load the spine, arms and legs to promote improved Bone Strength.

Yoga vs. Osteoporosis: 10-15 Minutes of Dr. Fishman’s Yoga for Osteoporosis poses that have been shown to improve bone density by an average of 5% over 2 years when performed regularly.

Balance: 5-10 Minutes of Standing Balance work to improve balance control and the ability to respond to losses of balance without falls.

I want in! What do I do? Where do I go?

Strong Bones, Strong Life meets Virtually via Zoom Mondays and Thursdays from 9-10AM. You can choose one or both days and registration is separate.
