The Magic Pill: How to use Exercise and Physical Activity to Age Better and Live Longer

Participating in regular physical activity can reduce your chance of all-cause mortality by 33% and can significantly reduce your risk of diseases like diabetes, heart disease and cancer, yet only 23% of American adults perform enough regular exercise to be considered 'Active.' This presentation will give you the tools to go from Inactive to ACTIVE. During this talk, we review the many benefits of regular physical activity, the CDC recommendations for physical activity and address the fears and concerns that frequently prevent people from exercising regularly. You will leave with the information you need to get ACTIVE, safely and effectively, at any age.



Staying STEADI as You Age: Balance Basics, Fall Prevention & the CDC STEADI Protocol

1 in 4 Older Adults falls each year and 1 in 5 of these falls causes serious injury or death. Once you’ve experienced a fall, the chances of experiencing another increases significantly. Using the CDC STEADI Initiative (Stopping Elderly Accidents, Deaths and Injuries) as a framework, this talk will help you identify areas in your life that may place you at increased fall risk and give you actionable steps to follow to decrease your risk of falls and falls-related injuries.

Healthy Habits for Healthy Aging: Six Steps to Better Health in 2022

Growing older is too often associated with aches, pains, fatigue and chronic illness. However, there are choices we make, every day, that can either help you age successfully or add to its burden. This talk gives you a no-nonsense look at how we can choose healthy habits to encourage healthy aging. We will cover topics including nutrition, exercise and activity, prevention of falls, health literacy, mental health, and how to access community resources. Listeners will leave with a better understanding of how to better manage your chronic medical conditions, prevent and manage age-related decline, and access the help you need to help you age-in-place safely at home.



Strong Bones: Osteoporosis Prevention and Management

1 in 3 Women will experience an Osteoporotic Fracture in their lifetime and fractures like these are associated with decline in function, and unfortunately, early death. However, about half of these fractures can be prevented with appropriate treatment, which includes weight bearing exercise and strength training. This talk gives listeners a primer on Osteoporosis prevention and management and provides a groundwork to use movement as medicine to slow bone loss and prevent fractures for anyone at risk for this disease.

Dementia 101: Dementia Basics + Dementia Friend Workshop

Both Dr. Katie Wadland, PT, DPT and Dr. Tami DeAngelis are trained Dementia Friends Champions and are able offer Dementia Friend training through Dementia Friends Massachusetts. To become a Dementia Friend, you participate in a one-hour Dementia Friends Information Session. You will learn five key messages about dementia, and a bit about what it’s like to live with dementia. As a Dementia Friend, you turn your new understanding of dementia into a practical action that can help someone with dementia living in your community. Your action can be as big or small as you choose - because every action counts!


Staying Active during Covid-19: Safe and Effective Exercises you can do at Home

Covid-19 has impacted us all in different ways, but worldwide, it has consistently decreased our overall levels of physical activity. Decreased physical activity is associated with increased anxiety and depression and is linked to almost all of the diseases associated with aging. This talk gives listeners concrete strategies to build activity back into their lives in this post-pandemic world we now live in.



Movement as Medicine in the Management of Parkinson’s Disease

With over 1 million American Adults living with Parkinson’s, it is the second most common neurodegenerative disease after Alzheimer’s Dementia. Regular physical activity, and specific Amplitude-based movement therapies, can not only help you move better and more safely, but can significantly improve your quality of life. This talk helps the person with Parkinson's disease better understand how to use movement as medicine to better manage their Parkinson’s symptoms, prevent secondary complications and even potentially slow the progression of the disease down.
