What Is Strong and STEADI?

1 in 4 Older Adults falls each year and 1 in 5 of these falls causes serious injury or death. Once you’ve experienced a fall, the chances of experiencing a second increases significantly. However, up to research has shown that up to 40% of falls are PREVENTABLE through proper exercise and activity. Strong and STEADI is an innovative, evidence-informed community-based fitness class that combines functional strength and postural stability with static and dynamic balance exercises to both reduce your fall risk and improve your overall strength and resilience. Strong and STEADI participants get to practice the reactive balance strategies critical to prevent falls. All classes are taught by members of our Healthy Aging Physical Therapy team and Strong and STEADI was developed based on the CDC STEADI Initiative (Stopping Elderly Accidents, Deaths and Injuries) framework.
