OsteoHour

🦴OsteoHour – Strength, Balance & Bone Health for Osteoporosis🦴 Welcome to OsteoHour, a bone-safe and bone-building strength and balance class designed by Physical Therapist and Osteoporosis Specialist Dr. Katie Wadland, PT, DPT. Katie is a Board-Certified Geriatric Clinical Specialist and founder of Healthy Aging Physical Therapy and this class is specifically for adults with osteoporosis or osteopenia.

OsteoHour Class focuses on:

💪 Weight-bearing and resistance exercises to support bone health

⚖️ Balance training to reduce fall risk

🧘‍♀️ Postural strength to support the spine and hips

🏋️‍♀️ Functional movements for everyday life (sit-to-stand, reaching, stepping, carrying) All exercises are taught with clear modifications, thoughtful pacing, and an emphasis on proper alignment and safety. Movements that involve spinal flexion, twisting under load, or high fall risk are intentionally avoided or adapted.

OsteoYoga

🦴 OsteoYoga – Osteoporosis-Safe Yoga for Strength, Balance & Posture 🦴Welcome to OsteoYoga, a bone-safe, bone-building yoga class designed by Dr. Katie Wadland, PT, DPT, Board-Certified Geriatric Clinical Specialist and founder of Healthy Aging Physical Therapy. All classes are taught by members of the Healthy Aging Physical Therapy and Training Team. This class is inspired by the Yoga vs. Osteoporosis methodology developed by Dr. Loren Fishman, and thoughtfully expanded to include additional yoga poses and therapeutic exercises that emphasize slow transitions, longer holds, and intentional alignment—all key elements for supporting bone health, balance, and posture.

OsteoYoga focuses on:

🧘‍♀️ Bone-safe yoga postures with longer holds to support bone loading

⚖️ Balance training to enhance postural control and reduce fall risk

🧍‍♀️ Postural strength for the spine, hips, and upper body

🌿 Controlled, mindful transitions to build confidence and body awareness

🏠 Functional strength that supports upright posture and daily movement. All movements are taught with clear cues, thoughtful pacing, and accessible modifications. Poses and transitions that involve spinal flexion, twisting under load, or increased fall risk are intentionally avoided or adapted to prioritize safety for individuals with osteoporosis or osteopenia.

Strong and STEADI

1 in 4 Older Adults falls each year and 1 in 5 of these falls causes serious injury or death. Once you’ve experienced a fall, the chances of experiencing a second increases significantly. However, up to research has shown that up to 40% of falls are PREVENTABLE through proper exercise and activity. Strong and STEADI is an innovative, evidence-informed community-based fitness class that combines functional strength and postural stability with static and dynamic balance exercises to both reduce your fall risk and improve your overall strength and resilience. Strong and STEADI participants get to practice the reactive balance strategies critical to prevent falls. All classes are taught by members of our Healthy Aging Physical Therapy team and Strong and STEADI was developed based on the CDC STEADI Initiative (Stopping Elderly Accidents, Deaths and Injuries) framework.

🌿 Coordination and agility drills to keep your balance reactions quick and effective

Strong and SEATED

Strong and SEATED is our all-seated exercise class designed to get you moving - all from the safety and comfort of your chair. Appropriate for wheelchair users and anyone who prefers seated exercise. Exercises are designed to strengthen your arms, legs and core and aerobic intervals are mixed in to get your heart rate up. Flexibility and mobility is incorporated throughout.

Strong and STEADI focuses on:

🧘‍♀️ Postural strength and stability

⚖️ Leg, arm and trunk strength

🧍‍♀️ Aerobic exercise from a chair

🌿 Flexibility and mobility to keep you feeling loose and relaxed

POWER over Parkinson’s

POWER over Parkinson’s combines PWR! Moves, with Functional Strength, Core Stability, Balance and Breathwork, for a well-rounded hour of exercise and education each week. Exercises are performed sitting, standing, walking and may sometimes involve getting on and off the floor.

POWER over Parkinson’s focuses on:

🧘‍♀️ PWR! Moves (Up, Rock, Twist and Step) in sitting, standing, on your back, on your belly and in all 4’s position

⚖️ Balance training to enhance postural control and reduce fall risk

🧍‍♀️ Functional strength for legs and arms and to keep you strong and independent

🌿 Coordination and agility drills to keep your balance reactions quick and effective

About the Instructors

All instructors are members of the Healthy Aging Physical Therapy Team and include physical therapists, occupational therapists and certified personal trainers. This means we are all experienced working with people of all ages and abilities and that these designed to be safe and accessible for everybody and every body.
