About Gauri Desai-Ackerman, MS, OTR/L
Gauri Desai-Ackerman is a licensed Occupational Therapist with more than 20 years of experience helping adults regain independence, confidence, and safety in their everyday lives. She has spent the majority of her career providing rehabilitation in patients' homes and outpatient settings, with extensive experience treating older adults and individuals recovering from neurological and orthopedic conditions.
Throughout her career, Gauri has worked with patients recovering from stroke, musculoskeletal injuries, chronic pain, amputations, and other complex medical conditions. She is passionate about helping people safely return to the activities that matter most through personalized treatment, home safety recommendations, adaptive strategies, therapeutic exercise, and education for both patients and caregivers.
Before joining Healthy Aging Physical Therapy, Gauri spent nearly a decade as an Occupational Therapist with Mass General Brigham Home Care, where she specialized in home-based rehabilitation, fall prevention, home safety assessments, and helping patients maintain independence while reducing the risk of rehospitalization. She also served as a Clinical Intake Liaison, coordinating transitions from hospital to home care and collaborating with interdisciplinary teams to ensure patients received timely, high-quality services.
Earlier in her career, Gauri worked at Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital, where she treated individuals with neurological conditions, orthopedic injuries, and chronic pain. She participated in interdisciplinary rehabilitation programs, chronic pain education, neurorehabilitation groups, work hardening programs, and stress management classes while also mentoring occupational therapy students and rehabilitation staff.
Gauri earned her Master of Science in Occupational Therapy from Columbia University and her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, with concentrations in Gerontology and Premedical Studies, from the College of the Holy Cross. She has presented professionally on the role of occupational therapy in home care and on occupational therapy interventions for chronic pain, reflecting her commitment to advancing the profession through education and evidence-based practice.
At Healthy Aging Physical Therapy, Gauri enjoys partnering with older adults to help them remain safe, independent, and engaged in the activities that bring meaning to their lives. She believes every treatment plan should be individualized, empowering patients with practical strategies and confidence to continue thriving in their own homes.
Outside of work, Gauri is an avid creative writer and has completed both a novel and a novelette while continuing to pursue publication. She enjoys the creative process of storytelling and brings that same curiosity, empathy, and thoughtful problem-solving approach to her work as an occupational therapist.
